Nike (Victory) - Pillar 1, north side

The winged goddess Nike, daughter of the Titan Pallas and Styx, personified the concept of victory in military or peaceful confrontations, and she was the charioteer of the gods. She descended from the sky to reward victors with glory, bestowing upon them laurel wreaths, palm branches, or cloth bands.

Here she is depicted as a winged young woman descending from Mt. Olympus to reward some victor with the band she is holding at thigh level.  Her garment is blowing in the wind behind her, and one of her feet barely touches the ground.
